After correcting for problems caused by the decaying orbit of satellites, as well as other factors, they have produced a new record showing 36% faster warming since 1979 and nearly 140% faster (i.e. 2.4 times larger) warming since 1998. This is in comparison to the previous version 3 of the lower tropospheric temperature (TLT) data published in 2009.

Since I've owned the car, it seems to have accelerated to twice that. Will batt degradation speed up as the car ages?

Yes. lower SOC means more charge cycles per mile driven, greater resistance to current flow, etc.

One feature of the Leaf that I miss on the eGolf is the automatic "Park" feature when you turn off the car when it's already stationary. I got so used to it that when I'd rent an ICEV with pushbutton ignition I would forget to put the shifter in Park before turning off the car, and it would take me a few minutes to figure out why the car wouldn't turn off (though the engine would).

Perhaps the OP can do that to prevent him/her from inadvertently leaving the car powered on.

You don't have to do that either. Your car beeps when you open the door in run mode.

On the island DCFC cost is $0.35 per kWh (plus parking fee's) which is reasonable seeing as we pay $0.10 / kWh as residential average rate.

Buyout my 2015 LEAF or return it?

Spent an hour and half at a local dealership yesterday and had a terrible experience. The sales folks act as if they know nothing of the buyout incentives and keep selling me a new Nissan, any Nissan, because they don't have any new LEAFs in stock. I walked away disappointed.

At this rate, I think I'll just turn in my keys at the end of the lease.

Anyone know what the final disposal fee is? I was told $395 by one dealership and $595 by another. Already know I'm going to be charged about $500 for wear and tear, based on the inspection by the independent agency sent by Nissan.

Chevrolet Bolt - 60 kWh, 238 mi, < 7s 0-60

Quirk Chevrolet in Braintree, MA is offering these special lease deals on Bolts and Volts. Specifically:

Lease a Volt LT for $95 per month!
Lease a Volt Premier for $195 per month!
Lease a Bolt LT for $145 per month!
Lease a Bolt Premier for $245 per month!
These leases require a $2,500 down payment, but you will receive a $2,500 state rebate. And the lease payments are for cars without DC Fast Charging or the convenience package. The Volts come with the comfort package.

I think Bolt prices are finally coming down to earth. They can still come down to Volt levels - that is when we will know its true sales potential.

@145 for Bolt (would be about $225 w/ zero down), I'd have got Bolt instead of Volt (paid $190 w/ zero down).

Having now lived with Volt for 3 months, Volt definitely feels like a better built car than Bolt. Everyone in our family still prefer the old Leaf, though.

Actually, after considering the rust that I noticed around the bolt head at the bottom of the strut, I am now of the opinion that Nissan forgot to properly tighten this bolt in the factory or the strut was worked on early in the life of the car, because a car in California does not rust a bolt in a few weeks or even months since battery replacement. It has likely been this was ever since early in its life, possibly from factory although that would surprise me. I do not have the service records from before the second owner and she only had the aux and traction batteries replaced.
Anyway, it was barely loose, just so that it could move on a bump and with tightening it half a turn there is complete silence when going over a bump now, just the way I like it.

EVSE options for 2013+ Leafs

I'm not aware of any EVSEs that are as sophisticated as the Juicebox Pro, the Zencar EVSE gives you a instantaneous and total Kwh reading, but unfortunately clear once unplugged.
I believe I read Juicebox is working on a way to directly connect to the EVSE with WiFi but as of now it's internet only and somehow through their servers. When someone asked what happened if their servers went down, their response was they had a very redundant system, of course no internet connection, no way to change the output current as of now. Again you can use the EVSE, you just can't change the output current from it's last setting.

I think you'll be OK with 6a, EVSEupgrade goes down to a 6a setting and I've never heard of anyone having a problem with it. I believe 6a is the lowest current allowed with the J1772 standard EVSEs use.

I've never read anything saying it was bad. Now if you were talking about 1,000,000 volts of AC, that may be an issue, as of people living under a high voltage power line but were only talking about hundreds of volts of DC, which is much cleaner than AC. Besides there is a metal chassis between you and the battery, which should stop even AC let alone DC.
I'm not worrying :)

Should the iphone 8 stay with the i phone 4 discussion?

I'd rather match content than context...

The thing is, Tony long ago produced a range chart for the RAV4, a car that's been out of production for years, and only 2,600 were built, a number that's undoubtedly reduced due to attrition. The Bolt's already sold around 3 times that amount, and no one (to my knowledge) has yet produced such a chart for it. So, the reason (my reason, anyway) for providing links to longer road trips isn't to show that such impractical trips can be done, it's to provide some real world range info under a variety of conditions on the various legs. The fact that these legs are often done as part of a 'BEV adventure' which is an inefficient use of most people's time is irrelevant; the data matters, not the fact that person X had the time to waste to make the trip.

We know that such trips can be made, just as we know someone could ride a skateboard or push scooter across the country, but given the alternatives very few people would consider that an efficient use of their time or energy, if their primary interest is to get to their destination in the shortest time possible, with the maximum flexibility and convenience. In any case, moving on.

2013 Leaf - Dead 12-Volt Battery every 2 Weeks

I just wanted to offer a quick update on the battery drain issue I was experiencing.

After getting the car back from the dealership, my wife and I changed our driving routine to ensure that we never drove the car on those 5-minute, 2-3 mile trips more than six times in a row. Since making this change, we have not experienced a dead 12V battery once!

Based on this and the gradual voltage loss over time I observed with LeafSpy, I'm comfortable saying that the dealer's suspicion (and that of some here on the forum) that the car wasn't able to keep up with the accessory drain over those short trips was correct.

Hopefully this is helpful to someone down the line :)

Post your location (and put it in your signature line) and we can better tell you if it would be worth buying out the lease. It really comes down to your climate: if it's usually hot, then don't own a Leaf. If it's generally cool or moderate, then owning a Leaf is ok.

London’s range-extended electric cab gets trial run at Goodwood
http://www.autoblog.com/2017/06/30/lond ... -goodwood/

. . . The electric cabs have been in the works for almost a decade, though details started surfacing about them in late 2015. The vehicles will be powered by an electric motor that provides a full-charge range of about 70 miles. Additionally, the cabs will have a three-cylinder range extender made by Volvo. Geely has owned Volvo since 2010.

London Taxi expects to deploy its first electric cabs later this year. That's a good thing, as London's mayor would like to mandate emissions-free taxi cabs by 2018. Spy shots of the TX5 surfaced in March, showing a vehicle that's a little less curvy than the TX4 and featuring "suicide" doors for easier passenger entry.

@OP The drain on the battery should be relatively low. I seem to remember someone saying the drain was around 400-450W at idle. That's very little compared to the 22-33kWh contained in the traction battery. Three hours of idle would have likely dropped the battery a percent or two.

Many times I eat lunch in my car and I just leave it "running" so I can easily put my windows up. I rarely notice any drop in percentage for a 30 minute lunch.

outspoken wrote:I am interested in a leaf because my local electric company is offering $10k off. I am sorry if this has already been answered but I looked through several threads and did not see this addressed:

1) If I buy a 2017 Nissan leaf with the $10k off from the electric company, can I still negotiate off the MSRP sticker price? How likely would it be that the dealer knocks another $4k off?

2) I have heard if you finance your leaf through nissan finance they give you $4,000 cash back. Can you combine the $4k from nissan finance with the $10k from the electric company rebate?

So would I be able to do this...

2017 Nissan Leaf SV: $34,000 (roughly)
-$10k electric company rebate
-$4k nissan financing cashback
-$4k let's say off MSRP negotiating with dealer
-$7500 federal tax credit

total: $9,000

Is that possible?

Also, I searched Nissans website and only found 30 2017 Nissan leafs in stock at Nissan dealerships near me. Is it possible there's more? That doesnt seem like a lot and I would assume dealerships would be bursting with leafs with gas prices dropping like a rock.

Thanks in advance!

The power company $10K does not stack with any other incentive or finance deal. In fact, one of the conditions is that you finance the car at the regular rate. So you have to read all of the conditions carefully. The price of the car is negotiable with the dealer, and I got mine to inflate the value of my trade by about $3000.
