Battery warranty time

I'm glad the OP found/joined this forum after getting a Leaf, but for the life of me I am shocked how many people are buying these cars "used" without knowing the how the battery bars, warrantee and GOM "work". It is such fundamental information that I am starting to think a new window sticker standard is needed for used EVs.

End of Lease Strategies?

FYI, today, March 16th, I reached out to NMAC to potentially purchase my 2013 S model. I still have 6 months left on the lease (due in September 2016). They quoted a $7500 off from the purchase price of $12600. My monthly payment is $227 before tax. So if I want to purchase my 2013 S with 20k miles and 11 bars it will cost me approximately $6461 before tax including 6 more payments plus $350 fee. Do you think I should take the bite? Thank you.

Looks like an excellent deal. If it is contingent on NMAC financing will they finance the car at a favorable interest rate?

EVSEUpgrade is 16 amp default and 3.3kW charging afaik. Charge at 30+ amps (6.0 kW) a few times and see if the car relearns the time vs power difference.

What size breaker is on the 240 volt circuit?

Two things, when I get the time or another mod beats me to it we'll have to move these posts to the 2013 battery thread. Just don't want to confuse people about the "lizard pack" terminology and this is a lizard pack specific thread.

The other is your screenshots. seriously old leaf battery check app? I assume that is android? Why not upgrade to leafspy?

Let's get the Blink Stations at San Diego Library operational

OldSurferDude wrote:The Blink stations at the San Diego downtown Library were installed 8 months ago, but they are not operational. There seems to be some non-technical reason for this. I contacted Blink. There response was:

"It appears that all of these units have been put on hold since about 8 months ago. We are under contract with the host of these units, but have not been given the go ahead to install them yet. We have recently been in touch with the host and are working on resolving this issue."

When pressed them further the response was:

"We appreciate your concern in this matter and would like you to know that we are actively working with the host of this location to resolve this issue. Unless you are a registered contact with the City of San Diego and should be involved in our communication with the City of San Diego to get these units setup, there is no further information I can provide.

I can understand that having these chargers sitting at the library inoperable must be quite frustrating, and I do apologize for the inconvenience. We are working to get these units up and running as soon as possible."

I am in the process of contacting the library to encourage them to get these units operational. (I suspect the only technical problem now is throwing a switch.)

I approach this form of social media for help, as the San Diego City government and Blink seem to be at loggerheads.

Anybody have any ideas on getting these stations on?

Blnk is owned by CarCharging. They work up here in the Bay Area but not reliably. I am assuming you are interested in NCTC.

Active cooling your leaf battery

Yes, it is going to take cooler than ambient air but also, it needs to be cooled even when unattended in places such as Arizona etc. I had looked at the Kia system that is placed in and under the rear cargo area but that vehicle area in Arizona doesn't get that cool. But it is an improvement next to nothing. It takes a little time for the super heated cabin to cool down also. But for hotter climates (especially the summer) the leaf needs constant cooling for the chemistry that Nissan has produced thus far.

To someone that said that you would have unsecured shifting liquid weight, No, not if the cavity space was absolutely full. There is not sloshing in vessel that is totally full. More weight yes, and is putting liquid in the battery feasible? Maybe not, and is still a question based on what has been previously mentioned.

Tesla Powerwall

Tesla has discontinued the 10-kWh Powerwall option for standby backup application. It seems Tesla has realized that where Powerwall has its real value is in daily cycling applications.

Also, it appears that development of the Powerwall product continues at a rapid pace:
Green Tech Media wrote:"We've got the Tesla Powerwall and Powerpack, which we have a lot of trials underway right now around the world. We've seen very good results," said Musk during a talk to Tesla car owners in Paris, The Verge reports. "We'll be coming out with version two of the Powerwall probably around July, August this year, which will see [a] further step-change in capabilities."

I'm interested, but honestly I've got no concrete use, so price would have to be reasonable.

We are working on this, as well as several other projects. I just approved the pin manufacture this week.

Actual programming procedure for key fob?

Sblessley wrote:First post... please be gentle ;)

Bought a 2014 Leaf off-lease, great deal but just one key fob supplied. We bought another on Ebay ($50, key not cut). Then our local dealership charged us an hour of labor ($125) to program it, and had the nerve to tack on a $12 "parts" charge for the key (which I supplied). They're now doing the post-appointment follow-up and my inclination is to read them the riot act. Yes, I understand "the computer has to be connected" (Service Rep's words) - but I'm thinking this is a portable programming device that plugs into the ODBII connector or the like. as I've seen for other vehicles. Can it require more than 15 minutes, really?

So I'd appreciate anyone that knows the procedure and how long it takes. I've searched and looked at the 5 posts I found here, but most of them address dead batteries.

Thanks!

P.S. The bulletin board system added the ebay link - no idea what it points to.

I love my keyless entry and if I lost mine id shell out the cash for a replacement. A couple months ago I misplaced my keys. Called up a local Cicero Locksmith guy was charging $80 to program a new fob but it wasn't gonna be an OEM fob. If the dealer says $75-100 that sounds about right. Programming key fobs doesn't come cheap.

I've heard so much about the Leaf not being good on the highway, and that its mileage is better in stop and go traffic. That is completely false. We are dealing with physics here, and it is exactly the same for the gas or ev car.

The energy consumed for both gas and electric cars is related to the amount of "work" that that is has to produce. (Think of it as how much energy you would use if YOU were pushing the car.) The leaf, or any car is best when acceleration is gentle, and reaches and stays at the cruising speed because it does not have to fight the inertia of the weight of the car.

so.. The worst energy consumption is with rapid acceleration, and stops and starts. E.G., I get my best mileage on the highway at 53mph.

How to get up to speed on all things LEAF?

It seems that age is a major factor in battery capacity somewhat regardless of use. As such, even if the car was minimally used of a year, it would show a years worth of battery capacity loss (all other things being equal which is usually not the case). Is that real or is it simply what the LEAF software projects?

Doesn't the Leaf already power off the headlights when you leave them on? I remember doing this. Sure, the warning comes on when I power off the car, and the headlights stay on a couple of minutes, but they eventually turn off. I'll double check when I get a chance.

Because I haven't used it since that version. And the only reason I used it in the first place is because I left my USBCAN adapter at work so I couldn't use my own CANMon program. I'm kinda over tracking data. I just drive and enjoy it. It's a lease so as long as it satisfies my needs until the end of the lease, I'm happy. At this point, barring catastrophic pack failure, it should do that without an issue.

If you are having better results than normal for Arizona, We want to discover what you may be doing so we can duplicate it to help make our batteries last longer.
