Inteligent key battery issues are driving me nuts!

I agree about calendar degradation. That's why it's generally best to get a two-pack of the same battery (one for each fob), unless you have more than two devices that need them. I ended up using one CR2032 for something else, and had the CR2025 sitting around, left over from a two-pack of those.

Good point. Done. Maybe a separate section is in order for cars with new packs...?

EDIT: I'll add a separate section for repairs tonight. That will also require renaming the survey, I think. "The Great Leaf Survey Novella"? ;-)

PBW SSOFF relay clicks every 5 seconds

The PBW SS OFF relay is the one that clicks when running an older version of Leaf Spy. I had that relay fail to drop out once in a while on the 2011. It would result in an ominous message on the dash indicating T/M Failure--See Dealer (not sure of exact wording). The message would usually clear after power to the car was cycled a few times (if not, I could tap on the relay to get it to drop out). After I determined it was that little relay failing, I tried to get the dealer to replace it under warranty. Unfortunately, it would never stick when I was at the dealer. I finally bought a new relay because I was afraid that it would stick when I parked for an extended time and run the 12-volt battery down. The Parts Department (at a different dealer) did have a little trouble looking up the part number, but they eventually found it by having the numbers off the side of the old relay.

Since Boomer cannot make the April 2nd Gathering, we could try the GC
up toward the north a bit, for convenience of out more northern guests.

I have eaten there a few times, and felt that it is a couple steps up from
HTB, with a wider selection of quite good foods, but can be crowded at
times, like for Sunday brunch. I suspect that early Saturday morning
should not be a problem.

I am not really sure about flexible seating at this particular location.
(The Bellflower location has a group seating area with some
longer tables that possibly could be "arranged", if needed.)

They open at 7:30 (I will double check) for breakfast on Saturdays.
So, hungry early birds could arrive early, but our official Gathering
start time will still be at 8:00 AM.

It is located just South of the 60 freeway, West of the 57 freeway, about half way
between the S. Azusa Ave exit on the West and the Fullerton Rd exit on the East.

Saturday breakfast is apparently only $8.19 including drink for Seniors (over 60).

Some links, with prices, menu, and hours:

I am willing to meet and transport some folks who do not have enough Range,
perhaps Dori, Steve, and ...

An experiment, an adventure, out of the HTB rut ... comments?

Battery warranty time

I have to think my car's battery should be replaced under warranty. It has 44k miles, and since owning it:
Day 1: Max range says 42 after charge.
Day 2: Max range says 72 after charge. Drove it 12 miles, it says 19 miles left.
Day 3: Max range says 45 after charge.

Will they replace this under warranty since it hasn't reached 50k miles?

DarthPuppy wrote:Bummer to hear that. I've been very happy with my 2013 Leaf. Only problem we've had was an intermittent short or something wrong in the battery system that would cause it to go from full charge to turtle very quickly. Took a couple trips to the dealer and cell phone pics of the dash showing lots of charge, then 2 minutes later showing it at turtle for them to do a serious diagnosis. Once they found the problem, it took about 2 weeks for them to get the battery parts and get it fixed. Fortunately the entire repair was covered by warranty. I'm guessing CR would score that issue rather severely.

Other than that, it has been perfect.
For this to really happen would involve *something* dissipating 20-ish kWh in 1/30th of an hour. That's 600kW, boys and girls. What exploded?

It *has* to be an instrumentation problem.

Sounds like a bad cell pair.

Wanted to, but no. With others getting first dibs, and pretty much requiring upgrades to get one sooner, running out the fed credits, I might as well wait for a CPO in 2020, if it's worth it.

Current lease ends Aug 2017 so might as well go one more cycle with a 150-200 mile car that maxs out <$40k fully loaded and still has full incentives. Hopefully Leaf 2 (or eNV200) is here by then, but Bolt will be, and whatever Kia, VW, Hyundai, etc, might have to offer. Probably won't buy out the lease, even if they offer a discount, as I can get by with short range, but would rather not. Plus, I generate a used car for somebody else.

Hydrogen and FCEVs discussion thread

Funny thing, I just came back from a trip to London, and I got to ride on a Hydrogen bus twice as well as about five times on hybrid buses. I didn't attempt to seek out any special buses, these were just in the normal course of seeing all the sights and navigating the city (we took dozens of buses as well as almost all the tube lines and some overhead rail). The only Hydrogen buses I saw (and rode on) were on the RV1 line which felt like the slowest and most traffic filled line I took, so in a sense it was a good "pilot" line for it. The busses are well marked as being "zero emissions", the word Hydrogen is plastered on the sides and embroidered on the seats! The hybrid busses are different though, with only some being labeled and the optional label being substantially smaller and more subtile.

As far as ride, it felt like a normal bus, the motor wine and other noises were noticeable but not any louder than a diesel model. The hybrid buses were quieter when starting off electric only, however.

While I do not like hydrogen for its inefficiency, I feel like any change from diesel in London is a good thing. The smell of diesel in London is nothing short of disgusting. I never saw soot from an exhaust on any vehicle, and every large lorry I saw had a urea tank, but it isn't enough. I hope the cab manufacture there can make plug in hybrid, electric, or even CNG models soon (I remember reading a while ago about them developing something but I didn't see anything on the streets).

Look in the Transaxle and Transmission section on page TM-35 (also on page TM-52). It is called the Electric Shift Power Supply Relay.

UPDATES:

L-1 charging will remain in the survey. That and anything else that doesn't apply to European drivers can simply be ignored by them. Euro Leaf drivers can also provide the option package names for European models. I've added a section for Hot climates, and adjusted the descriptions for Cool and Temperate climates.

The Electric Motorcycle Topic

UPDATE: a full week after emailing Zero the bike and BMS logs, they haven't responded. There is an official Zero owner's forum, but it is moribund. The Electricmotorcycleforum Zero topics are more active, but aside from one member providing a partial decryption of the logs, their main advice is "take it to the dealer"
and (paraphrasing here) 'Stop worrying about it and bothering us.' After finally making them understand that there is no dealer near me, the advice is to just take it to *A* Zero dealer, somewhere, and not to involve Zero myself, but to have the dealer do that. One member finally recommended a dealership I was considering, so I guess I'll be arranging to have the bike transported there, 120 miles away, and then back again however many weeks later it is "fixed." I say "fixed" because from what I'm reading the repairs to defective Zeros seem to take multiple trips to a dealer to completely rectify, as the replacement onboard chargers, for example, often fail again.

My advice at this point is "Never, ever, buy a Zero motorcycle unless you have a well-rated dealership within a few miles of your home." I also strongly suggest that you first contact the dealer and make sure that they will still *be* a Zero dealer for at least the length of your warranty. When I started considering these bikes there was a dealer in my area. No more. Anyway, as soon as this bike is working as it is supposed to work, with no error codes, it will be going up for sale. Let my stupid mistake be a lesson for you.

All generation is done on the ground. The kite pulls cables out and that turns a generator. Once the cable is all pulled out, the kite is furled and pulled in and then the cycle repeats itself. The kite and its support cables are all that fly.

Here is a link to a system which I have previously read more extensively about. I think you will find more information there.

Thanks, I'll check it out. Ground-based generators do reduce the weight up high, and I've always favored them for that reason. OTOH, frequent reeling in and out (plus the mechanisms to frequently furl/unfurl) also adds to costs and maintenance, and ISTM is likely to increase the likelihood of tether failures. I'd love to see somebody make it work commercially.

Yep. got a check for $50. Appears that if we can get the battery under 9 bars before 60 mo or 60k miles we now also are guaranteed a new battery. Not just a refurbed one. Regardless, I think I will not reach 8 bars in time -- still have 11 at 44 months and 37k miles......

Sounds as if you're the exception to the general rule that "it doesn't make sense to replace one module in a LEAF battery pack, because they all degrade equally anyway". You might be a candidate for an early battery inspection at the dealer.

Answered this back on page 46 of this thread; going on the 31st and am a LEAF owner; I've been traveling last few days so just saw this poll

http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=18016&start=450

Although I'm not a early adopter ALL the time (waited on the Miata for a few years before buying one as the first year dealer's were gouging big time and it really turned me off to them, car was just too good to ignore; I did get a first-year '98 New Beetle TDI and first year '08 smart fortwo coupe (for the wife) and my '12 LEAF was probably among the first dozen or so in Chicago) this time is a bit different ... yes, I agree it will be at the very least a year and probably much more before I see one; my LEAF was about 18 months from reserving online and I seem to recall about the same time for the smart; on the New Beetle, I actually got lucky because a diesel was ordered, customer cancelled and then no one wanted to take a chance on it --- owned it for 8 years; fantastic heated (cloth) seats, close to mid 40's MPG; unique style (at the time) but back seats were just too small for my 'kids' anymore after the 8 years so upsized a bit ... anyway, back to this poll ...

... I'm very interested as others may be on how Tesla will pull this off; I've seen recent articles about them adding more machinery in the former GM/Toyota NUMMI plant to handle much more volume and have always been impressed by the S sedan's (also, actually saw my second Tesla X in the wild just yesterday in Northern FL close to JAX) so although it may be a waste of time, yes, I'd like to see first hand how they keep us informed, etc. as they indeed are not typical for a car company. And also, to be honest; and S or X or even the roadster was still a bit too much to spend on a single car (we have 3 though, perhaps combining 2 would be feasible); of course, to get it the way I'd like it could easily add a few thousand or more but we'll see how this breaks out.

Sorry for such a basic question but would this app work on my '12SL and also '13S? I don't believe the '13S has internet connectivity(carwings)?? and I'm the second owner on the '12SL and have never hooked it up to the internet or activated anything. It sounds nice to be able to control things remotely but not sure if it would work for me....

Our two fobs triggered alert same day exactly too.
I suspect either key low triggers the alerts to show for both/all keys, 'cause I keep our spare 100' away from the LEAF and only bring it out once every other month or so, for the day.
