Leaf charge problem

Hello leaf experts
I have one big problem with charging. I have leaf MY 13 with 6.6 kW charger. Already half a year I can not charge at public charging stations by MENNEKES plugging because the yellow triangle warning appears after a few minutes or max 1 hour. Even if I want to turn recharging with Carwings not working. The only solution is a hard off the connector from the charging station and reconnection. Home it charging normal to the original charger. Leaf I had already 3 times in service because these problems and only reset and delete mistakes. The forum has several posts with such problems, but I not detect how they are resolved. If anyone knows what is wrong, so I can told Nissan servicer. It is sad but do not know how to fix this problem. Leaf spy shows these mistakes;

UPDATED- LEAF LED High-Beam upgrade

Yes, that LED bulb does stick out a bit more, but just make sure that it is firmly seated in the connector. Some have taken electrical tape and wound it around the base of the LED and the connector to hold it in. Road vibration is not an issue, but the bulb can be knocked out of the connector when it is removed if you are not careful. And if the bulb falls into the headlight assembly, then say good-bye to it.

Glad to hear that everything else is working out. I have also replaced just about every bulb in my LEAF with an LED save the turn-signal bulbs. That's because LEDs don't draw enough current, and set off the "bulb-out" circuit. This can be fixed by putting a bridge resistor in the circuit, but I figured that upgrading the interior, headlight, license plate, and side markers lamps with LEDs was enough.

Cabin filter orientation - factory incorrect?

I am guessing that the orientation of the filter doesn't really matter from the standpoint of effectiveness of filtration as both sides of it look to me about the same. That being said, it IS important that a used filter ALWAYS be replaced (if only inspected after removal) using the originally installed orientation so that the dirty side is never placed next to the cooling evaporator coils (which get cold and wet from condensed water and can easily get clogged from air borne dust, etc).

Looking at a recently dealer replaced filter (part# B7891-1FC0A -- FILTER ASSY-AIR), it is marked on the side with the tab:

"FRONT ^ A" (where ^ represents a solid arrow)

so it is somewhat ambiguous as to whether "A" means airflow or "FRONT" means front of the Leaf or front of the cooling coils.

I try to replace the filter myself (so that I can vacuum out that area which the dealership might not do), so I have interpreted the ^ as pointing towards the front of the Leaf (so that the pulling tab is on the top when installed). But my last Leaf inspection time I let the dealership replace it and I noticed later that the filter was replaced with the arrow pointing towards the rear of the car, i.e. towards the cooling coils which is, in fact, the direction of the airflow.

I might add that instructions seem to come with that filter, but they are in Japanese and the illustrations don't make the installed filter orientation clear.

LG Chem's Patil revealed 2 things recently
- 40% more dense batteries (compared to '11)
- 50% cheaper

If this is true for Nissan, they should be able to sell a double range Leaf (48 kWh) for the same price as the '11 24 kWh Leaf.

As of 6/6/2015:

Car was manufactured 8/2012, leased 1/2013, currently has a bit over 24k miles. Garage kept both at home and at work. Never QC'd (since it doesn't have that port). I'll probably lose that first bar by the end of summer.

this company was from Germany and they have (last I heard) installed a few transfer stations for testing and promo purposes but the lack of further news suggests that their idea, despite being a good one was simply too late getting off the ground.

newer better ways to extend range are less than 2 years away and have tested very well on prototypes. its only a matter of moving to production now. won't be long

Do you think Leaf or EV Owners Drive More/Less than Average?

I personally have been driving less since I got the Leaf. I want to keep my miles as electric as possible and especially when your car doesn't have a QC port, you have to plan things out. No more spontaneous trips (which IMHO is the real range anxiety people speak of when they mention their reluctance to go all-electric even if it meets over 90% of their driving needs). If it's something I can't reach with a couple hours' worth of L2 charging for a round-trip, I just don't go unless I really have to.

Prior to the Leaf I would easily put 15k/year on my cars; now I'm only putting 10k/year on a 12k/year lease. Even with my ICEV and former daily driver as a backup, I'm barely hitting 12k/year total on both cars.

I ran the browser and Flipboard on my phone during an L2 charge and couldn't get Leaf Spy Pro to crash or draw glitchy lines... but then I noticed the battery temp line was absent from the graph. Is it only plotted during L3 charges? Here's a screenshot:

Yes, only during QC. The temp data has always been saved for all charges (L1/L2/QC). I just started plotting it for QC so if you look back at any old QC plot it will now have temperature shown.

L1/L2 plots can be much longer and adding another item slows down creating the graph. If you export the csv file you can plot the temperature data for L1/L2 charges.

First post in the new, improved format, and where in hell is the 'quote post' button, or does it automatically do so now? [Edit]: OK, found it, and what a dumb location.

Anyway, I saw Baker City had been used, but as you mention it's not yet official, so I won't list it until then. There are four or five other sites that are all very close, and we may well get some of those before the end of the month

BTW, just wanted to see if folks notice the amazing amount of carpool cheaters. For me, as I commute on the expressways around Santa Clara/Sunnyvale, more than half the cars I see in the carpool lane are solo, and no, they're not EVs nor plug-ins. If I was a cop, I'd just hang out by the carpool lanes and write tickets non-stop.
Saw a Fusion with green stickers yesterday. A regular Fusion, no Fusion Energi markings. Somebody at DMV boobed, there are counterfeit stickers, or else the owner of this car has a PEV and put his stickers on this one instead.

1. Poster name belongs on left, next to title of post. It's ridiculous to have to scan all the way across to the right to find out who in hell is posting.

2. 'Quick links' menu seems totally unnecessary, just an extra click for what used to be buttons always in view. Bring back always visible buttons for 'view active topics' and 'view your posts'.

3. 'Reply with quote' shouldn't be hidden behind an icon, nor should it be at the top of the page. You reply after reading a post; it belongs at the bottom of that post, where it was.

4. Font size and contrast. It's blah, now.

Some of the complaints are undoubtedly due to unfamiliarity, but many reflect real usability issues. I've been using PCs etc. since the '80s, and the usability of the new format is a big step backwards IMO. I can only hope that the other 'myEVtype.com' forums keep the old format, as it was easy to switch between them all.

+1 Way to complex and type is WAY to gray. One of the worst forum formats I have seen in a while.
I actually may need my reading glasses to read from a 42" monitor, and no my eyes aren't that bad, but they may get that way soon. Any chance of more contrast?

Nissan Announces Up To $7,000 Credit For Buying Your Leased

It sounds like this new residual is built into new leases.

My 2015 S with quick charge was $2400 down, $242 a month on the lease, and $10500 on the residual after 3 years / 12k annual miles.

I'd still consider it a pretty great deal. Brand new car, Lizard battery, ~9k in total lease payments, and if I choose to buy out over 2018 options I can do so for less than the price of a current used 2012 in my area.

Well here are my long term stats with notations.

http://ecomodder.com/forum/em-fuel-log. ... cleid=8836

The most recent entries are with spats and partial grille block at 75 mph air conditioning blasting (without wheel disc hubcaps) on an 90 f day 200 mile road trip with 3 quick charges battery peaked at 122. Or about 30 f above ambient!

The really low entries are hauling dirt or hay on a one tone trailer.

Nearly 50% over stock at 75 mph bombing down the freeway is pretty nice!

Another LEAF with range collapse

I have been frustrated with Nissan also. My 2011 can make it to work (34 miles slight downhill grade) but after charging to 100% at work I make it home in last red bar. I drive 32 of the 34 on freeway and that is driving right lane, drafting and driving 55 to 65. I can no longer take the carpool lanes
that I waited so many years to open. I gave the Leaf to my daughter almost 2 years ago) to drive locally and I leased a FIT EV so I can take advantage of carpool lanes. ( I was driving close to 30,000 miles a year the first two years)

I approached Nissan first through my local dealer who said they could do nothing for me and suggested a new battery, and then I wrote to Nissan and got a call back a few weeks later. She said they would look into it and get back to me. A few days later they called back and first gave me suggestions for
getting more range from my charge (like checking tire pressure and staying to the right and driving 5 mph less!!)
I explained that my 4 year old car that I bought to commute in can barely get me to work one way and with a little more time it would not get me there at all. She said Nissan suggests a new battery for the $5000+ discussed here.

They explained the battery warranty was only good if I had lost so many bars before 60,000 miles, I explained that I lost that bar at 62,000. They would not cut me any slack. So much for Leaf #11, I took a chance and purchased, and only got two years of commuting out of it. It has been a good local car now ,but even as a local car it takes planning for my daughter to get to school, practice, tutoring and home.

I read that there might be a new battery with better range coming in mid-2016 models. Any idea if that battery will be available as a replacement?
I would much rather wait for that than to spend $5000+ now and get the older technology.

I am loving the FIT, almost 50,000 miles now, and no range issues. I can charge at work and make it home and back to work to charge without issues
and still go 70+ in carpool lane with air conditioning!!

Import used 2011 Leaf from US to Canada

Hi Dave. These are the best instructions I could find on the forum for importing a U.S. Leaf into Canada. I want to give my Leaf to my father so we need to do this. Some questions below if you can pls help.

djwhite wrote:
Answer:
Bought a really nice Philips kit with a smart relay that is supposed to figure out when the engine is on and turn on the lights. Also has a tap you hook up to a regular light which will then shut off the lights when the regular lights are on (Canadian requirement). Turns out whatever mechanism the smart relay uses to detect that the car is on (AC noise ?? ) doesn't work on an electric car. Anyway, was able to figure out something using a normal relay and directions on this form. Cost me about $100 and a full day of running around, but managed.

Thanks for this info. Which instructions on this forum did you follow? I see one that requires installing external LED lamps is that suitable and approved by Canada for DRL requirements?

6) Dealers - Do they typically know what paperwork is required. I assume I would need to pay cash No ?

Answer:
The dealer I dealt with had not done it before, but was keen and did what was needed (recall clearance letter sent to RIV, title sent to US border). Biggest hangup was coordinating the shipping to a border location where I could drive it home from

Assuming I have the title in hand, do I just need to get recall clearance letter? Where do I get that, Nissan?

Once you get it to the border what do you need to provide to Canada border/customs and what are the costs?

Thanks!!
