Nissan issues software update to solve 30 kwh battery issues

It is because a large group of people with your opinion have washed their hands of Nissan and no longer post here. You are reading a dying forum with a distilled viewpoint fueled by motivations other than technical merit.

I want to buy this 2014 Leaf S
by GerryAZ (Posted Tue, 03 Jul 2018 21:31:11 GMT+7)
The Distance-To-Empty (DTE as Nissan calls it) or GOM (for Guess-O-Meter here on the forum) will vary greatly depending upon recent driving history so the number is worthless for determining battery capacity. You can get the Leaf Spy app through iTunes or Play Store, but a good OBDII adapter to work with either app is harder to find. Where did the car spend its life? The battery degrades much more in hot climates. Have you thought about how much range you really need? Don't plan on more than 50 miles once the capacity is down to 9 bars--I made my 52-mile round trip commute with my 2011 after it was down to 8 capacity bars left before Nissan replaced the battery, but there was almost nothing left at the end of the day.

SoCal LEAF & EV Gathering, Y8 - GC - 7 Jul 2018

If you can make it to Tony's EV Bash on Saturday the 14th, you are likely to be glad that you did.
At our last EV Gathering, we had close to 20 people show up at the Hometown Buffet in Santa Ana, including Tony Williams.
Our next EV Gathering is this coming Saturday, the 7th of July, at the Golden Corral on the City of Industry.
See the first post of this thread to view all the dates for our EV Gatherings for the rest of 2018.
See you Saturday, hopefully, ... and have a good, and safe, 4th of July ... Gary

Also, +1 on ignoring the stupid GOM.
Can you update your location info via your user name in the upper right > User Control Panel > Profile tab? That way, we don't need to ask in future posts/threads or do sleuthing to deduce it.
What are your daily driving needs in terms of miles? How much city vs. highway? Will you have the ability to charge at your work/destinations?

New member battery/ advice
by cwerdna (Posted Wed, 04 Jul 2018 01:36:53 GMT+7)
Battery will degrade badly due to the heat. You'd probably want a model year '15 w/the "lizard" pack, which is the best, so far. I've been to Vegas in the summer a few times. It is WAY too hot there.
Don't know what you're talking about. There's no battery lease program in the US.
120 volt, yes. You need to have a dedicated circuit or one that has little or nothing shared with it. Car will pull 12 amps * 120 volts = 1440 watts continually for many hours at a time unattended. Think about running a space heater or hair dryer on full for many hours at at time, unattended.
It is very slow to charge at 120 volts and there are greater charging losses at 120 volts compared to 208 or 240 volts.
There some considerations/things to be careful about when charging at 120 volts, like the below.

Electric Charge Cost
by cwerdna (Posted Wed, 04 Jul 2018 02:32:22 GMT+7)
I could only dream of electricity that cheap in Pacific Gouge & Extort land. I already posted my E-6 schedule.
If one were on E-1 (page 1 of https://www.pge.com/tariffs/tm2/pdf/ELEC_SCHEDS_E-1.pdf) which isn't TOU and had my summer baseline of 10.1 kWh/day (Area X, "basic electric" of https://www.pge.com/en_US/residential/s ... ities.page), 1561 kWh in a month would be insane. 10.1 kWh/day baseline = 303 kWh/month for a 30 day "summer" month.
If I did my math right, 1561 kWh in a summer month on E-1 would be just shy of $454.
Here's my past year's electricity costs.

Flyct wrote:As others stated, it depends on your electric rate.
Here I pay about 10 cents/KWH. Looking at actual electric usage and the inefficiency of the Charger my measured electric usage equates to about 2.4 cents/mile or $24/mo for each 1000 miles driven.
...
Here’s my electric usage by the month for the last year. This is a 3000 sq ft house in a Florida with a pool and a 5 ton, high efficiency air conditioner. We we not Home much March, April and May so usage those months was low.

With it's SOH(state of health) it will probably only charge up to 94% no matter how long you leave it charging. For the dealer to say going from 94% to 100% is going to give you another 12 to 16 miles is laughable, if the car would actually charge to 100%(which I kind of doubt) it would be lucky to give you another 4 miles or so.
To put it another way, at the rate of 6%=14 miles that would mean that 100% would equal 233 miles![Shocked ]()
![Laughing ]()
I'd say with a fully charged battery 64 to maybe 68 miles tops, you'd be REAL hard pressed to get 70, maybe hypermiling on a downhill trip.

This is what the dealer replied about range.
So I just looked at the dashboard, it's charged up to 94% and the range is at 64 miles, which means fully charged will probably get you 76 miles, 80 tops.
64 miles concerns me.

Is Nissan Connect (Carwings) worth it?

Nag screen appears even when you don't have the upgrade. The car might be trying to send data to Nissan over the old phone network that no longer exists, and wants to you approve that...![Rolling Eyes ]()

The official "I got my Leaf" thread
by Leaf15 (Posted Wed, 04 Jul 2018 07:20:03 GMT+7)
Funny, I finally tricked myself into buying first EV. I was waiting for $35K Model 3, but it looks like never going to happen. So I bought JuiceBox 40A charger on good deal on eBay and then I thought, I have to get EV now that I have charger installed in my garage. So a week later (exactly a month ago) I got CPO 2015 Leaf SV for peanuts, or should I say a peanut' shells, with Nav and Bose Audio and I could not be happier EV owner. It fits my needs 100%. For other things I have other cars. I think Leaf makes very good sense in multi-car households. I did a few inexpensive upgrades and now it is perfect car to drive as a commuter and local errands.
