End of Lease Strategies?

The car can get damaged by the dealership after you return it. That's a big reason for the inspection. The inspection report is supposed to be the important one, although if much time elapses between inspection and turn-in, you might have to fight.
akat wrote:mantar wrote:Also, has anyone had an experience where they found more damage after the return than the inspector deemed reportable?
Seriously, does this happen? What's the point of scheduling and doing an inspection then?

I think you are in a particularly good position. You paid for the TCU to be upgraded and you got a bum TCU. Since they have admitted there is an issue, I'd be demanding that they either fix the issue or refund your money.

Road tripping from Portland to Seattle in a 2015 Leaf SL
by agedmachine (Posted Mon, 23 Apr 2018 13:51:48 GMT+7)
Just got to Castle Rock — with 33 miles range left. I drove a little faster on this stretch, as to flow with traffic more - often 65-ish and sometimes 70.
I might have been able to make it to Woodburn, which is 29 miles further south — but it is some hilly terrain, so I figured it would be best not to press my luck, and I did enjoy the lunch place in Castle Rock that I’d stopped in during my last charging session here. (Lacey Rha’s)
The car reported an estimate of 101 miles range when I left Tumwater.. that gave me more joy than perhaps it should have. It’s also about 72 degrees out today, I had to roll my windows down a few times to keep the cabin cool...
This is all going very well!

Thanks,
We're working on getting a few quotes over the next couple of weeks. One installer who does Trane just wrote back "...Attached is the proposal that is our best effort at getting to what you asked for. We no longer install the Trane XV20i, due to equipment performance on previous installs. We can install the XL18i..."
So looks like others have had good results with your unit, but pushing the envelope further into a higher efficiency Trane sounds like might be an issue.
Over the next few weeks we will try to price out:
Lennox XP25 (SEER 23.5, HSPF 10.2)
Rheem RP20 (SEER 20, HSPF 11)
Carrier Infinity 20 Greenspeed (SEER 20.5, HSPF 13)
RegGuheert wrote:I'm very happy with the 11+-year-old Trane unit that we have currently. The only problems I have had so far are the following:
1) The dual capacitor in the outdoor unit failed and had to be replaced. (It cost me about $25.)
2) A 5A automotive-style fuse blows when the batteries in the thermostat get low. That one only cost me a few fuses, but it took quite a bit of time to figure out what was going on.
OTOH, I hated the York unit that was replaced by the Trane.
Thanks,

Up to this date, red turn indicators kill more people in US than all EVSE's in the world.
Your logic is brilliant and well thought out. You should design HV power electronics and personally test all your designs.

Chevrolet Bolt - 60 kWh, 238 mi, < 7s 0-60

My Leaf was under $10,000 used. I can't get a Bolt for under $28,000. Well, I guess I have found 2017 Bolts for almost that price, minus federal tax credit of $7,500, minus Colorado tax credit of $5,000 leaves me at around $17,000. But I can't even afford that! Maybe someday used prices will come down. Or I'll have found a solution for extending the range of my Leaf.
The range in the Bolt is awesome though. But you get what you pay for I guess. Plus I do haul adults in the rear seats. Sometimes all 5 seats with adults in them. And I'm 6'1".

2013 Leaf - Dead 12-Volt Battery every 2 Weeks

Update! Last post that commented I could have jumped it. It was completely dead. Dealer confirmed that. They charged it but died for them as well.
Action taken: Nissan contacked and said they are aware of the TCU upgrade draining the 12volt. No fix on the horizon. They paid for my battery replacement. We turned off the TCU until a fix is found. Don't need the app that much to play a guessing game if my LEAF will start or not. I recommend calling Nissan and logging a formal case. 1-877-664-2738 option 1 then 4. They said when known they will probably have a mailer home.
I asked WHY if you know of this issue do you allow Dealers to install the TCU. They started because they didnt know which ones are bad. I said EXACTLY you need to inform your dealers. Mine had no idea (at least that is what they stated). Been 15months since the new TCU upgrade. A bit concerning they can't figure this out. They wont give me my $199 back BUT are doing the right thing by paying for a new battery that their TCU killed.
Thank you to all who posted on this.

2018 Nissan Leaf (US edition) - Location of OBD2 port

I have a 2013 Leaf, so they may have moved it. I suspect not, though - if you have the opening in the same place, I'd expect the port to be there. Here's hoping I'm wrong! There are people here using LeafSpy on new 2018 Leafs, though, so you should get a definitive answer.

TSLA corporate outlook
by GRA (Posted Mon, 23 Apr 2018 19:21:42 GMT+7)
+1, not to mention easy access to the Port of Oakland for shipping of parts in/cars out to Asia, and an existing plant that Tesla got for cheap (let's hear it for the second of the three 'Rs'). GM quit Nummi because of their bankruptcy, and Toyota didn't need it by themselves. That's not to say that some mixed-use residential development in the area (close by the recently-opened Warm Springs BART station) wouldn't be useful. I know some of the surrounding cities are intending or have already built mixed-use TODs around their BART stations, and Tesla certainly should consider running shuttles the 2 miles between the station and the factory, or else the company and BART should station some of the electric scooters that S.F. is in a snit about at the moment at both locations. Or (at some point when they're profitable) Tesla and the city could pay to build a pedestrian overpass or tunnel from the station to the other side of the tracks in the factory parking lot.

Manufacturing vehicles in Alameda County is an environmental as well as financial disaster.
If TSLA had't have been so short-sighted to buy GM's white elephant factory, the property could have been responsibly redeveloped into the high-density housing the region desperately needs.
It's dead center in a large industrial zone, bounded by freeways and railroads. Not an appealing spot for residential, and you'd be wasting a perfectly good car factory. Assuming the cars are to be built somewhere, a factory that meets CA and BAAQMD standards, AND produces BEVs is about as good a tradeoff as you're going to get in this world.

Road tripping from Portland to Seattle in a 2015 Leaf SL
by camasleaf (Posted Mon, 23 Apr 2018 19:33:59 GMT+7)
I did Camas to Seattle three times, all on 2015 ans earlier Leaf models. It was fun the first time, and maybe the second. It was not so fun the third time. I would not want to have to stop more than once, look for an available and functional charger.
Last trip was with the Honda Clarity PHEV. 77MPG going, 56 MPG coming back, no charging at destination. That trip was the first time I pumped gas after 6 years. The dealer pumped the first tank. It did feel weird. It was at a Costco store, and while enjoying my slice of pizza, I was thinking that a Tesla could have been charging while I was eating. It was about a month and a half ago, I pumped 6 gallons and still have half tank. 1800 miles and the mpg average maxed at 200MPG. I still feel I made the right choice for us. The 2011 Leaf at 80,000 miles still covers our Camas, Vancouver and North Portland trips. Farther than that the Clarity is a better fit. I do charge the Clarity when a charger is available.
