I'd like to think that there will be a good chance that those new drivers, who learned on a LEAF, will become die hard EV enthusiasts and won't ever buy an ICE.

That was me. Dealer says it’s brand new and is ready for sale to anyone. It’s not a demo car.

Have you seen it? How many others are there? What is name of Dealer?

Metro Nissan in Montclair. I haven't gone there to look at it since I did that Nissan Drive Experience a couple of months ago and already got a good feel for it. The guy has been telling me to go over and test drive it, meaning that he has it.

Per his email. He has one Leaf right now and will have "a couple more" later this week.

One of the interesting things about a brand-new technology application is the ability to rethink things we take for granted. For example, having one motor to propel the car. Tesla already threw that out with their "D" AWD design. Even if 80-100kW is all they could achieve with this motor, I feel like there are still possible applications which could leverage its strengths.

Hello again guys,

The infrastructure for electric cars in Europe it's not so well spread out like in the US and that's a good thing because you can still find a lot of free charge stations. It's not a problem to install a charger at home, It's just that feeling that you can go for free :D ... maybe with the new Leaf but it's quite pricey right now!
I could go with my gasoline engine car at work in those cold days in winter and in the rest of the year to take the Leaf.

3.3KW Regrets?

No regrets, I'm still loving my 3.6 kW slow-charging 2014 Leaf S after 2.5 months. It dropped its first bar a month after I got it, so the seller timed it just right! I have a 3.8 kW AmazingE EVSE at home. There's lots of free L2 charging in my neighborhood (LA suburb), and from what others tell me, some of the free chargers might be limited to 3.6 kW anyway, so I'm not missing out there. I haven't had to pay for any charging yet, but it's fun to scout out the local chargers to share info & pics on Plugshare. Some of those are 6+kW chargers, and have an hourly rate (vs. per kW), meaning I'd get less charge per $$ than a 6.6kW Leaf, so that's a drawback. There's a Tesla model 3 owner I see charging for free (L2) at McDonald's. He's had his car back for service twice since December. ;)

SpaceX launch of big Falcon 9 Heavy, 3 Falcon-9s tied together, with Elon's roadster as payload, now scheduled today for about 12:45pm PST. Should be fun. Live broadcast from

http://www.spacex.com/webcast

will begin 15 min before. The RP-1 fuel (rocket-grade kerosene) is super-chilled to raise its density, so they don't start loading that too early.

02/06/2018 10:47
Stephen Clark

The Falcon Heavy countdown has resumed, targeting liftoff from pad 39A at 3:45 p.m. EST (2045 GMT). But the SpaceX launch team will re-evaluate upper level wind conditions in a few minutes, shortly before loading RP-1 fuel into the rocket.

There is one collision avoidance cutout in the remainder of today's launch window at 3:56 p.m. EST (2056 GMT). The Falcon Heavy cannot launch at that time to ensure it does not get too close to another object already in space.

High-pressure helium and nitrogen gas loading into the Falcon Heavy is proceeding normally at this time, and there are no significant issues with the launch pad or the rocket.

I don't have leafspy BUT - car is starting to take a charge - I am using the trickle charger to be extra careful. Significant weight off my chest. Time for a glass of wine... I have had the car for 3 winters now with no problem having it sit overnight at very low temps as long as it is plugged in. Seems the battery warmers are enough to keep the battery from getting too cold. But no external power supply for a week is of course deadly. I think the car was charged when the cold spell started so there was a lot of battery left to run the battery heaters, that was probably a good thing...
LiON batteries do not like being charged quickly at extremely low temps (<0 F). I've read that an irreversible metal plating reaction can occur, resulting in permanent capacity loss. At extreme temperatures, the car will refuse to charge or only charge at 500 to 1000 W, even when connected to a 40 amp 240 V EVSE. It sounds like you found those temperatures. Good luck, it sounds like you didn't freeze the electrolyte (it's organic, not water, but can still freeze) or burst any cells, so you got lucky this time.

When it gets cold here (0 to 20 F), I specifically use up extra charge during the day (blasting the heater, driving inefficiently, taking extra trips, etc.) so that I can keep charging the battery all night on L1. This helps keep the battery "slightly" warmer. One day last winter I had 0 F and zero temperature bars showing on the dash for my 4 mi trip home. I drove a few extra miles and arrived at LBW (maybe 20 total that day, with the heat blasting 5 KW the entire time). I have a 2011 without the winter package that included the battery heater. In your environment, I would invest in heating pads under that battery (search MNL for a guy that did that in eastern Canada), a tarp, parking in an insulated garage, etc.

Wow, what a relief!
OBD2 reader finally arrived at 7:30pm and I've just plugged it in to the leaf.
only had 2 error codes:

P31E7 000B EV/HEV Restart Inhibition EVC-310
P0AA6 0008 EV/HEV Hybrid Batt Volt Sys Isolation EVC-157

cleared DTCs and the leaf is back to the way it was. Suddenly has 28% charge again instead of 21% (really can't explain this but who cares?)

Tomorrow is going to be the big day where I finish wiring everything up and (hopefully) take it for a test drive with the new pack installed.

I'll start a new thread if it works to show what I've been up to.

Best wishes,

Andrew

The idea that good quality ICE vehicles will go 250k miles without a major repair is, while not quite a myth, misleading. The reality is that many of them will SURVIVE that long, albeit usually with major repairs. Volvos are, or used to be, excellent examples of that. Some people do go 250k miles before a major system fails, but that's usually by racking up many miles over a short time period.

Good Will Program over--Lost 4th bar 10 days after warranty expired, Nissan: 'too bad'

topaz420 wrote:What a bummer. There is obviously something amiss with these early-model Leafs, which is why Nissan initially extended the warranty programs (thanks in large part to the outcry from this community)

Instead of doubling down on that support, they have now canceled the Good Will Program altogether

I had only 34,000 miles and 10 days out of warranty--this is my second Leaf (and i was already on the waiting list for the 2018). You'd think that this is the exact type of loyal customer to whom you would extend a helping hand, but after speaking to multiple representatives, their reply was simply that a faceless board has decided that this is over. No offer of a 90/10 or 80/20 split (as others have received in the past), no appeal, no human that I can speak to. Just over.

I am in Los Angeles and my effective range is now about 40 miles. I can't even make it to downtown and back.

An act of good will could have turned me into a loyalist and evangelist for life, but this instead has soured me on the whole company

Copy the right people and you might get somewhere:

I think one of these bounces, but when I had an issue with the water pump, this got action taken on it and this was last year, so worth a shot.

I carry a long j1772 extension cable... If an ICE parksin the space, I will park right behind him and plug in...

For good measure (if I have time) I will exit my car and stand around and keep an eye on my car.. If the ICE owner comes by, I will enjoy his sense of fear that his car is blocked. After a few minutes of watching him squirm, I will quietly unplug my car and drive away without a word. If they yell, I will wave goodbye.

I also carry such an extension cable and I would indeed block them in if necessary (if I can I will park a couple spaces down, but it does confuse other EV drivers coming to look for a charge) and no, I wouldn't move my vehicle when they came back until I was done charging and just for good measure, I might even take it all the way to 100%.

Ok, I am not that mean, but I did have one time that I had to tell them they had to wait at least 20 minutes because my car was so low on power. Could I have moved sooner? Probably, but I can guarantee you they never parked in an EV charging space again after that.

WTF??? 2018 is half over and still nothing!!!

I paid well over $100 in gas this month! I am sooooo embarrassed to admit that!

Has anyone received theirs yet?

Umm, 2018 just started, it is not half over.

In my area of the country the body usually fails long before the mechanicals :(
One of my previous vehicles, a Geo Metro 5 door that would routinely get +50 MPG hwy and high 40s city! was 10 years old, 80k miles(I didn't drive much) and the engine and 5 speed was like new(I changed oil every 3k). When I was going around a cloverleaf and the whole front of the car fell on the front tire
Apparently the Metro had a design defect where the area the shock/spring mounted to would rust through and the front of the vehicle would collapse!
Engine and drive train like new, due to the thin metal they used(to keep it under 1700 lbs!) repairing was not an option and I basically had to throw the car away :(
After than I only changed oil on my ICE's every 5-6k figuring in the end rust would kill them, not engine failure :x
