To be honest, the most comfortable car I've been in is a Smart fortwo, but there's no way I'll be buying one of those death traps.

Funny you say that.... we have one at work. I drive it all the time. Everyone hates it, people laugh at me getting out, some cell phone pics. It's got the largest door opening of all the cars we have since the B pillar curves and isn't in front of your shoulder. The front of the door also opens pretty far out and good for the legs.

Just the other day I was getting out of a van we have and I got stuck cause I didn't slide before I turned. Crown vics and impallas are pretty bad too with a trick to getting out.

The smart is also the only car with heated seats! The transmission is why I would tell no one to ever buy it. The only reason to buy one is because you don't have any space to park anything else. I can't imagine anyone thought it was ok to build it. I hear the electric is really a nice drive.

As far as safety goes it's a trade off, they do really well in certain tests, ya if you hit a semi you're dead but you are in everything else. Trade off is in single vehicle and side impacts. You've got less weight behind you to stop and if you're car is half as long you're less likely to get hit by someone else.

Thanks everyone for the help. I finally got my backup camera to work. I used one (same as wires) from a 2012 Leaf. However my Leaf is 2013, so the connector's layout didn't match when "plug and play". We had to find and trace the right connections of the wires from the drivers kickside connector to the camera. Now it works flawless.

I have a 2013 leaf sv as well, how did you get your camera to work? I have been stumped trying to figure this out, going over this thread a bunch. I cannot for the life of me find how to wire my camera into my h/u. Do you perhaps have any photos of the connector inside your kickpanel? I'm using an aftermarket camera, so I don't have a 2012 harness to use.

Sorry, as I recall all of the under hood fuses are continuous voltage. It is easy to run a wire through the grommet behind the fuse box. The fuse holder to the left of the driver has acc and switched power on it. Just use an add a fuse for a clean installation. They are on Ebay if you can wait or at Auto Zone for instant gratification. At Auto Zone I think they are slightly less that $10. Half that from China via Ebay.

... As far as I know, any repair shop can get EV savvy, purchase the Consult III machine from Nissan and do the battery checks or any other LEAF maintenance, repair and diagnostic work.

The Nissan certified LEAF technicians require periodic training. WV dealer failed to get the training and could not provide LEAF maintenance for a period of time.

Are the non Nissan service shops also doing that training?

Leaf Spy may just be right but it does not pass the Nissan smell test. No reverse engineered unit will count at Nissan service. They have their own procedures that a bad battery must show up on.

Agreed!
At first I thought south Colorado springs Nissan was a mistake on plugshare but now I see a comment that confirms it! I will try this out sometime soon. Would have been much more useful at wooden Nissan by I25 though.

I've gone through 3 obd2 adapters that all got the "command not found -- use v 1.5" message.
I just ordered a 4th. They're only $10-15, but I'd just like to get something that works.
Do you have a link to a known good connecter?
Thanks
Don

Solar System in Colorado

Do you know if there is an upper limit to the federal credit we can claim for the solar system install - looks like thats the only incentive I can claim? Another related question - I would like to built solar awning and simultaneously expand my current porch - would the price of the porch construction also be tax write off - since I am basically just building a support for the solar awning?) Anyone got lumos panels installed - http://www.lumossolar.com/? They are local out of Boulder, but manufacture them in Canada. Anyone has experience with ordering panels online or have you just bought yours through the contractor?

I have also just bought ELR this year - expecting to get full refund of $7500 for it. Are those fedreal tax refunds can simply be combined with no issues? Can I get both 7500 plus lets say 30k for the solar panels install?

I think it used to cost around $300 for the Envoy. But even if it includes "lifetime" access to Enlighten, then they should reduce the price for out-of-warranty Envoy replacements. As far as I can tell, they are going to make you pay full-price if your Envoy is unlucky enough to fail out of warranty. (Correction to above, the Envoy warranty is 2 years, not 1 year).

Yes, I specifically asked the question: "Any price break for replacement Envoys for failed units?" of Enphase. I was told "no." I was also told to purchase any replacement Envoy through the normal dealer/installer network. It does not seem fair to pay the extra bucks for "Enlighten Access" twice... Once, maybe, but a replacement should not include that cost again.

By the way, I just received the FedEx shipping notice for the replacement M190 that was initiated by my support call on Monday, so it took 3 days for the unit to be shipped.

ok, I have a different problem, so I guess I should start a new thread, but I'll post here for now and see how it goes.

I cleaned the inside of my car, wiped down the display, opened it and closed it a few times to clean, but now it won't
stop opening and closing. When the car is turned off, it keeps opening and closing every few seconds, like the button
is stuck. When the car is turned on it works fine. I can open it and it stays open. I can close it and it stays closed
(at tilt position). I turn the car off and it closes all the way, then starts up again opening and closing. I tried the
"car reboot" procedure by disconnecting the 12 v battery, but when I hook it up again it keeps going.

Any suggestions? Has anyone seen any threads on this topic?

This happened to my 2012 leaf today. Has anyone been able to resolve without taking to dealership? It doesn't seem to be going away on its own and am fairly sure it is the cause of my drained 12v battery. This only happens when the car is off. I popped out the SD card half way to keep it from opening and closing overnight and draining the battery again. I know that's probably not the best fix but tape seems like it might cause it to malfunction longer...

Interesting view points on TMS recently posted, i.e. not the typical "TMS is a must have.".

Those are the people not willing to take a risk on an unproven tech, especially since most of them were, or know someone (through here) that got the bad end of the stick with Nissans early non-TMS battery. I can understand that point of view when talking about buying your next pre-2020 BEV. However if we are going to talk about what is best for the consumerif this lizard pack shows no more than 10% lost over 5 years in the worst hot areas then ultimately from an engineering point of view TMS isn't needed and that is an advantage.

Saying right now "TMS is a must have" and sticking with it forever is like saying 30 years ago "a crank driven fan is a must have" and ignoring advancements in electric fans and the obvious advantages that they can offer.

Certainly, but it's very unlikely that lacking TMS will provide Tesla-level warm and cold longevity given the same number of cycles on the respective battery packs. As far as I've heard, Lizard has no changes related to cold-range degradation (which is mostly the 50%+ in cold weather range reduction on Leaf v. Tesla's more modest 30% reduction numbers at around 0 F).

If it was a base model S without the charge package and they factored in all of the rebates and dealer discounts, that could be doable (minus taxes and license). I bought a 2015 S with the charge package and with all of the discounts and the rebates ($2600 dealer discount, $3500 Nissan rebate, $2500 CA rebate, $7500 Federal credit) the price was just under $17K including tax and license. So I guess if you took out the charge package, that price would be doable, but there's likely a lot of fine print such as... The state rebate will take 2-4 months to process, the federal credit is only applicable if you pay enough in taxes to deduct it, and also the taxes are charged on the car before the state and federal credit are factored in. You'll have to come up with the money up front, or finance it, and then you'll have to wait for the rebate and credit. The tax credit won't be back in your bank account until March/April of 2016, so there's a few catches there. All of this set aside, I would not recommend buying a base S without the charge package.

But not to patients that sign the "voluntary commitment" forms just minutes before the hearing to have them involuntarily committed...
