I read on this forum that Nissan is deducting $5000 off on residual value if you purchase at the end of the lease

Yes, but there's no guarantee that anyone leasing now will receive this down the road. I only learned of '12s receiving around late 2014 or so. I only heard of '13s receiving this offer less than a month ago... and yes, I also am eligible for this.

Your post states:
"The Nissan owners manual clearly outlines their process for both charging the 12-volt battery and 'jump starting' and they're plain-vanilla standard."

My post states:
"Actually, page 6-11 does not explicitly state the cable connection process for charging the 12 volt battery,"

No where in the manual does Nissan describe "CHARGING THE 12-VOLT BATTERY" as you have stated.
Re-read the manual as it's written! The manual JUST describes jump starting.

Yes, we all are aware of the proper procedure for jump starting to avoid an explosion which also avoids
an incorrect battery polarity connection by always connecting the negative cable to the chassis on the
vehicle to be jumped.

Nice try but still no. The quotes and reference are spot-on as both instances - jump starting and connecting a charger - involve connecting cables for the purpose of CHARGING THE BATTERY. What exactly do you think happens when one connects a lead-acid battery to another with a lower voltage? That's right - electrons start flowing from the battery with higher potential to the one with a lower charge.

Nissan does make clear in multiple locations of the manual, however, that if one doesn't understand the process they should pull the car over, shut it off, and wait for a flat-bed ride to the dealer...

The included 6.6kwh charger is really helpful! I can plug in at home with my L2 charge rand add 35-40% in an hour.

For me, the 6 kW OBC ROCKS! I can pick up juice much more quickly while opportunity charging at free L2 public charging. I can start charging @ work way later (when demand has died down) and I don't tie up an L2 EVSE for nearly as long. I also sometimes swing by work to take a shower or get some work done and pick up juice almost 2x as fast.
...
In my book, 3.x kW OBC is lame.

Here's another example from today where the 6 kW OBC rocked. I've been home sick from work the last few days. I will probably be returning to work tomorrow. I've been charging mine minimally at home, since there's no reason for me make my bill go up unnecessarily.

I drove to nearby free L2 charging (30 amp, unknown if 208 or 240 volts) and arrived with ~17% SoC. I plugged in (luckily there was an open plug), walked to the nearby Chipotle, ate and walked back. By the time I got back to my car, it was over 50% SoC... may have been as high as 57%. After an errand and returning home, I had 45% SoC, more than enough to make it to work.

It's weird that the OP has decided to vanish.

From the questions it appears that whoever authoured the survey has never had an EV or is still stuck in a gas-station public refuelling mindset. And WTH would I want my charger to post to social media accounts? Is this like those dog collars that "tweet"????

The survey made me want to face-palm... Quite often...

Georgia Tech has a good reputation and I work with 2 engineers from there, but this... Sigh...

The survey wasn't THAT bad. As someone who's had their Leaf close to 2 years and uses workplace charging every workday, I thought they were legit questions. The queuing question is legitimate. (I rarely charge at home (have no L2 @ home) and sometimes use free public L2 charging.)

We're having actually now having issues w/our EV valets receiving too many cars for their 6 J1772 handles. I've given them suggestions verbally and have brainstormed in a document but haven't shared it out yet. I've heard some ideas from some other EV/PHEV drivers, but they are EV newbs and don't know some of the details of other vehicles (e.g. different wattage OBCs). Some suggestions involve additional hardware (e.g. J1772 Hydra, JLONG, etc.) but there's a problem of physical space. Only so many cars can fit around where those 6 handles are.

We also have some more self-serve/self-managed J1772 handles.

Some questions were ambiguous, like the number of stations. I chose to answer by # of J1772 handles, since some of our stations have 2 handles while a few have only 1. I also mentioned in the comments 120 volt outlets, which I didn't count as stations. Whoops... and I realized I left out the handful of Tesla HPWCs in my count of stations.

As for the social media part... yeah, I don't care about that, but some people might. Gotta love the random social media that becomes a fad/popular then goes out of fashion that some older folks (me included) don't care about like Vine, Snapchat, Pinterest, Meerkat, etc.

Heck, even the Chargepoint app added some social media features almost 3 years ago (http://www.chargepoint.com/press-releases/2012/0718). I've never used them even though I use their app a lot, since the EVSEs @ my work are Chargepoint.

And you know this as really, right? Even the hyping analysts, e.g. Adam Jonas of Morgan Stanley who
helped to float the $2B convertibles which Panasonic has failed to match in dollars for Giga, aren't so
sure of X's timing. Could it be that Tesla is just able to 'tweak' the Model S over time? How disappointing for many would that be?

How retarded.

1) Tesla has reiterated Q3 2015 for Model X launch as recently as a month ago.

2) Pictures have been taken of Beta Model X in Northern and Southern California doing testing on public roads. Elon even stated engineering on the Falcon Wing doors is done.

3) AWD drivetrains have been introduced that will later be used in Model X.

4)In all likelihood 70 kWh battery packs are being rolled out in anticipation of Model X. 60 kWh packs would not reach the required 200 mile range in Model X and manufacturing three different battery packs is inefficient.

Panasonic has signed contracts with Tesla to invest $2B over five installments.

The first module of the GF is being built as we speak.

The only disappointment will be from Tesla Bears/Shorts and sour grapers that can't afford a Tesla but privately desperately wish they could drive one.

Seriously...

Here's one I just grabbed off of someone's post on the BMW i3 Facebook group. Hope he doesn't mind. Some replied in a comment referring to it as a panda. Another person w/the identical scheme posted their pic and someone replied referencing stormtrooper.

Oh yeah... the vehicle pictured is a REx version since it has 2 covers for openings. The one in the front fender covers the gas hole since the gas tank is in the front. Some refer to it as "the flap of shame". :) The J1772 inlet w/optional Frankenplug is behind the rear flap.

Interesting idea, but not having done it before, I don't think I want to experiment with that.

The part came in at Nissan and they put it on yesterday. The charge port protector actually cover quite a bit of area. It will protect against some chips. Better than nothing I guess.

Thanks everyone for the help. I finally got my backup camera to work. I used one (same as wires) from a 2012 Leaf. However my Leaf is 2013, so the connector's layout didn't match when "plug and play". We had to find and trace the right connections of the wires from the drivers kickside connector to the camera. Now it works flawless.

I have a 2013 leaf sv as well, how did you get your camera to work? I have been stumped trying to figure this out, going over this thread a bunch. I cannot for the life of me find how to wire my camera into my h/u. Do you perhaps have any photos of the connector inside your kickpanel? I'm using an aftermarket camera, so I don't have a 2012 harness to use.

My 2013 SV was missing the harness from the camera to the drivers kick side panel. So I put the original harness (from 2012 car) from the camera to the C pillar in the back of the car (since it was OEM, there was no problem with these), and from there some 5 different color cables to the drivers kick side panel.

The connections between the connectors were mixed on the way, so we had to figure exactly which cable from the front goes to the camera and trace it. As I remember this is the correct layout in the drivers side kick panel:
B3 to M21 pins: 8,9,25,24 & 7: Shield, video, common, +6.2V & camera sense(grounded)

So be sure that video signal from camera goes to 8,9, the power for the camera goes to 24-25 and the 7 is shielded. That way it should work. It's easy to find these connectors as B3 in these places is empty, whie the M21 continues with cables (to the navigation unit).

I have the red and black connected directly to the battery, the orange to the parking light wire (very close to the battery) and the blue to the PDM 57th IGN red wire.

Have you connected your blue wire from the first time? I'm thinking if it might be a reason that I drove the car for couple of days before connecting the blue wire, and the Philips box might have remembered the batteries Voltages from then, and still uses the same algorithm to decide when the car is on or off. I might be wrong, but I read somewhere that these Philips control boxes are intelligent with memory of the batteries behavior etc... However before connecting the blue wire, I had the Philips disconnected for some 5-10 minutes, so I was hoping this "memory" would have been erased.

The Osrams are these :
http://www.osram.com/osram_com/news-and ... /index.jsp

I am not worried by the install anymore too. They look really nice when on, and discrete when off. You would really have to know where to look, to notice the flaw in symmetry when looking from a distance. However I am more concerned now that if they will last me just several years, how would I remove them without damaging the bumper :)

The battery pack arrived to the garage yesterday and I removed the lid. I also bought an ELM 327 OBDII to Bluetooth.

Image

I made a simple cable to connect the ELM 327.
I bought the female OBDII from a junkyard, the guy gave me one which has the ability to reconfigure the pins. I removed all pins and added only four - pin5 (GND), pin16 (12V) and pins 6+14 (CAN). It turned out that the round connector in the Leaf battery has a standard 0.1" spacing, which was neat because I could use simple standard female headers for that end. In the upper left of the round battery connector are two 12V pins. Upper right are two CAN pins. Just below the CAN pins are three GND pins.

Image

The ELM 327 and BMS powered up on first attempt,

Image

and I could connect with the App.

Image

Everything just worked. Thanks for the info in this thread. Thank you for the App, Turbo3.

Looks like my pack is in good condition. It's from a 2013 Leaf with only 6800km.
Next step will be to take the pack apart and connect it 3p. Then I will attempt the modifications to the BMS.

“When someone thinks of an electric vehicle they don’t think of Chevrolet; they think Toyota or Tesla.”

Toyota? Really?

A couple other interesting trends in that table though: Note the Tahoe numbers falling off in favor of the Traverse, and check out the big numbers for the equinox... IMO that continues to be the Volt's real problem, it's the wrong form factor, competing in the segment where the margins are naturally at their thinnest. Reality check though, it all pales in comparison to the pickup trucks. Also note that the ELR might as well not even exist, the discontinuance of which hardly received mention on this thread.

Huh? On my iPhone, it comes up $30k, on this desktop, $13k, guess I should always shop with the desktop.

So, Fed is $7.5k, what's IL, 5 or 6K? And the rest Nissan discount?

With the eNV200 teasers of late on Facebook, maybe the 2016s are coming soon with 48kWh and they want to move some inventory.

I doubt we'll see a higher capacity leaf until 2017. The 2016 models will likely be the same as 2015 with a few minor changes. I think the price drops are just starting to reflect the impact of a slight decline in EV prices due to lower gas prices as well as a ton of lease returns on earlier models.
