I have to agree with this comment.

45 miles one way in a LEAF is a given - even years from now after some loss of battery. WIth L2 charging at work, and assuming a normal work day, he'll easily have enough battery juice to get home. Seriously, 2011/2012 LEAFs can easily do 45 miles one way in the worst of conditions.

Even in a situation involving a 110V trickle (L1) charge at work he should be fine, because the 45 miles in the outbound trip won't come close to depleting a fully charged battery, especially in a 2013.

As much as I wish that this was a workable proposition, a 45 miles one-way commute will likely result in about 20 to 25K miles a year. That's not quite as many as TaylorSFGuy is putting on his LEAF, but it's up there. Given the cycle life Steve's experience in cool Kent, WA implies, and the big unknown of replacement pack cost, I would not recommend the OP to proceed with a LEAF purchase. If I recall correctly, some forum members were able to work out semi-economical deals on a high-mileage leases. I think it might be worth go to through the numbers on a 2-year lease, including mileage penalties, if any, just to see if it made any sense. Either that, or wait until Nissan announced battery pack replacement prices. As was already mentioned upthread, a Volt with workplace charging could be a good solution also. I'm not as familiar with the cycle life of its battery, but there is always the range extender to get you where you need to be, even if the pack degraded significantly.
