hard to accept "lucked out" when in reality Ford saw the same problems GM did and instead of waiting for the inevitable handout, they made the tough decision and it was a very tough decision to sell off coveted assets to prepare for the issues they faced. they Manned up.
it is that reason alone that everything being equal, i will take a Ford over a GM any day

We should remember Ford just lucked out and didn't go to bankruptcy along with GM. They did a HUGE $23B debt deal before the 2008 meltdown. I don't think they are run any better than GM or Chrysler in terms of engineering / production.
Mulally is known for cutting corners (by outsourcing) - that bit Boeing hard with the Dreamliner problems. Ford had major Sync issues because of that. Not sure what is happening with the new vehicles.
