At the 2011 meeting at the Googlplex w/Kadota-san, Mark Perry and others, I asked Mark myself about that (either after the end of the meeting or during a break, when folks were standing around him) and he confirmed there was no harm to charge only at 120 volts. I wish I could find my own post stating that.
The rear visibility relates to the rear head restraints/headrests on the '11 and '12 models. As has been already stated, some folks just remove them when nobody's sitting in the back. The '13 models have improved this somewhat.
